1. Use of the App

Pause Before is an iOS mindfulness app that helps users create a pause before opening selected apps. The app may provide app blocking controls, Buddhist-inspired reflections, Buddhist and mindful quotes, streaks, quote journaling, unlock windows, onboarding prompts, and subscription features.

You may use Pause Before only for its intended personal, non-commercial purpose and in compliance with these Terms.

2. Mindfulness and Wellness Disclaimer

Pause Before is intended for mindfulness, reflection, and habit support. It is not medical care, mental health treatment, therapy, diagnosis, crisis support, religious authority, legal advice, or other professional advice. You are responsible for your decisions and should seek qualified professional help when appropriate.

3. Screen Time and App Blocking

Pause Before may ask for Apple Screen Time or Family Controls permission so you can select apps to block. Blocking depends on Apple's APIs, device settings, entitlement availability, operating system behavior, permissions, network conditions, and your use of the device. We do not guarantee that blocking will be uninterrupted, available at all times, or impossible to bypass.

4. No Account Required

The current version of Pause Before is designed to work without a required account. App settings and app state may be stored locally on your device. If future versions add accounts or cloud sync, these Terms and our Privacy Policy should be updated before release.

5. Subscriptions, Trials, and Payments

Pause Before may offer free and paid features. Pause Before Premium Annual provides the paid features described on the purchase screen, which may include unlimited blocked apps, journal access, streaks, expanded content, and the mindful unlock ritual. The subscription length and your local storefront price are displayed in the app before purchase.

Eligible users may be offered a 3-day free trial only when the offer is displayed in the app. After a displayed trial, the subscription automatically converts to the annual price shown at purchase unless canceled before renewal. Trial eligibility and availability are determined by Apple and may vary by user or storefront.

Payments are processed by Apple through in-app purchase. Annual subscriptions renew automatically unless canceled through your Apple subscription settings before renewal. Apple handles payment methods, billing, cancellation controls, receipts, renewal notices, and refund requests according to Apple's policies and applicable law.

6. AI-Assisted Reflections

Pause Before may use a Vercel-hosted server connected to OpenAI to generate short original reflections based on limited ritual context. That context may include the selected quote, quote source, quote theme, presence score, streak count, a random freshness value, and intention text. Security information may also be processed to protect the service from abuse.

AI-generated reflections can be incomplete, inaccurate, or unsuitable for your situation. They are offered as reflective prompts only. Buddhist and mindful quotes and AI-generated reflections are separate kinds of content.

You authorize Broadn LLC and its service providers to process the context you submit solely to operate, secure, and improve the reflection feature. Do not submit information you do not want processed for that purpose.

7. Content and Intellectual Property

Pause Before includes interface text, original reflections, designs, source notes, quote metadata, and other content. You may use the app and website for personal use. Do not copy, scrape, resell, redistribute, or commercially exploit substantial parts of Pause Before except where separate source licenses or applicable law allow it.

8. Restrictions

You agree not to:

• Use Pause Before for unlawful, harmful, or unintended purposes.
• Reverse engineer, tamper with, overload, or interfere with the app or services.
• Attempt to bypass, manipulate, or exploit the locking or subscription features.
• Use automated systems to scrape, copy, or stress the app, website, or related services.
• Upload or submit unlawful, harmful, infringing, or abusive content.

9. Third-Party Services

Pause Before currently uses PostHog for analytics, Vercel for website and server hosting, and OpenAI for AI-assisted reflections. Pause Before also relies on Apple services for iOS, Screen Time, the App Store, and in-app purchases. Vercel-hosted services may use infrastructure subprocessors or configured storage to operate security controls. These services may be governed by their own terms and privacy practices. Provider policies are available from PostHog, Vercel, and OpenAI.

10. Apple Terms

Apple's standard end-user license agreement applies to the iOS app unless Broadn LLC provides a custom end-user license agreement through Apple. These Terms also govern Pause Before's website and related services. If these Terms conflict with mandatory Apple terms for the iOS app, the mandatory Apple terms control.

11. Changes, Availability, and Termination

We may update, suspend, remove, or discontinue features, integrations, pricing, trial availability, content, or the app itself. We may restrict or terminate access when reasonably necessary to protect Pause Before, users, service providers, or legal rights. We may also update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be identified through an updated effective date or other reasonable notice.

12. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

Pause Before is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim implied warranties and will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost data, lost profits, lost opportunities, device issues, service interruptions, or reliance on app content.

13. General Terms

These Terms are governed by applicable law, without overriding consumer protections that apply where you live. If any provision is unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain effective. Broadn LLC may assign these Terms as part of a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of the Pause Before business.
